Should you still have sex with your partner if you have a high grade lesion in your cervix?
I was just diagnosed with HPV and they typed it as high grade...and I wanted to know even if they remove everything..is it wise to have sex still..can you pass it on....and does it mean that you can not have children?
If you've already been having sex then you can still continue to do so. Men usually do not have symptoms and don't face the same consequences that we women do. Just be sure your partner knows so that he can decide whether he wants to have sex under these circumstances. He also needs to know that he can pass HPV to another woman after being with you.
As far as fertility - it depends upon how your lesion is removed. If it is deeper than the first layer of cells you may have to have minor surgery to have it removed. Depending upon how deeply your cervix is cut, your ability to carry a child to term can be affected.
Also, any treatment can distroy (sometimes irrevocably) the cells that make most of your vaginal mucus. This is the mucus that becomes more copious during your fertile times and helps promote fertility by protecting sperm, giving them a safe/good medium to swim in to get to your egg.
Women can and do have children after treatment for high grade lesions, but you do need to be prepared for the possibility that your fertility may be adversely affected.
